Internal audits of the management system can provide precious information to an organization’s managers. This information will prove even more relevant if the internal auditors have a good knowledge of ISO 14001 and/or OHSAS 18001, and are able to interact with all levels of the organization. Also, as more organizations look into integrating their EMS and OH&SMS, there is growing interest for opportunities to harmonize audits in these areas. This is reflected in the publication of ISO 19011, an auditing standard applicable to all types of management system.
OBJECTIVES
The course aims to help participants:
consolidate their understanding of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001;
apply the relevant approaches of ISO 19011;
acquire the knowledge required to carry out an effective internal audit of an EMS or an OH&SMS, or a combined audit;
acquire the basic skills required for carrying out competent and effective internal audits.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Internal auditors wishing to learn the techniques for conducting an audit, from the planning stage to the preparation of the final report. This course is also very useful to anybody requiring a good refresher before attending our Advanced Environmental Auditor Training.
PREREQUISITE
A good knowledge of ISO 14001 or of OHSAS 18001 is necessary to derive all possible benefits from this course.
OVERVIEW
This course focuses on:
* a concise analysis of the requirements of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, their main similarities and differences;
* the fundamental principles of an audit;
* an overview of the different types of audits;
* the differences between a conformity assessment and an internal audit;
* auditor's skills;
* the audit process;
* data gathering techniques;
* documenting the audit report;
* following-up on corrective actions.

When presenting the course in-house, it is possible to focus the training on the EMS only, or on the OH&SMS only.
